House Hunting

So we're house hunting again.

I say that like we've house hunted recently, which is probably a stretch since the last time we house hunted was 2 and a half years ago, but whatever.

Right, so we're house hunting. I've been keeping an eye out for a few months now but realistically the looking couldn't really start until now since we are looking to move for January 1st. Due to finances and life schedules it would be unrealistic or impossible to move for December 1st or even February 1st. So, that makes it tricky.

On top of that we live in an expensive city and we live on one income. Tricky also. Plus I have high hopes and dreams for a home - all of which involve space.

But in the past God has answered these dreams and situations. He is a good God and an abundant one at that.

So here's my plan of attack.

It's one part smarts and determination and one part faith.

I believe God provides miracles. Honestly the house of my dreams doesn't exist in Vancouver for the price I want to pay. We just know that.

However I believe that God does provide miracles and I know people who live in Miracle homes - that should cost way more than they do. And I know that our place was at the bottom range of our budget and yet was more space than we'd dare hope for and in a better location. I believe this can happen again.

Some days that belief is easier than others.

I also believe I have a mind for a reason. I believe Craigslist exists for my benefit (well for everyone, but that's not important right now). I also know how to sound good on paper. And I am diligent in my search.

Therefore every day I search Craigslist for our home.
I have also posted on CL in the housing wanted section, just in case.
I talk to people and let them know what we are looking for in case they know someone who is renting out a house.

Would you like to know my dream though?

  • 4+ bedrooms - but oh do I long for 5 or more in reality.
  • Dishwasher!!!!
  • Laundry INSIDE (not outside like we deal with now)
  • A whole house and yard (though we would do top half if everything else was ideal)
  • More than one living space in the home - we need two separate seating areas so that we can do separate small group times at lifegroup
  • A house built to host - we want to throw parties, feed lifegroup, have family dinners and invite the church and the world into our home.
  • A kitchen with space, though anything bigger than what I currently have now would be a win, that's for sure.
  • A pantry area
  • A storage area
  • Room for our deep freeze
  • Little nook's throughout the house for storage, cozy seating and random awesomeness
  • Shed/Garage for projects and storage
  • Backyard!
  • Patio! OH! BBQ's and dinners
  • Bathroom in Master Bedroom! And maybe a room laid out such that we could have a little seating nook so we can have privacy.
  • A space for an office for Paul - whether that's a room or a quiet corner or a space in our bedroom - he needs a place that he can leave all his stuff out, be alone and just study/work.
Mostly I pray that we would find this place before December so we can give our notice while knowing where we will live!

So while I look and hunt and do things, and while I save boxes and make moving plans, I also pray and believe that God provides and that if this is His timing then things will work out. And that regardless, I know He is good.

Reading your post made me a little happier about our house. If only I had a month to purge, organize, and clean it could be pretty sweet! Not perfect by any stretch but considering our rent pretty good! Maybe you can come over in December and help me brainstorm some ideas??

Have you found the perfect house yet, Tara? =D If you haven’t, try asking for a professional assistance of a mortgage broker. Doing just that, would narrow down your list of houses that fits your preferences.

Sounds to me that you have your ideal house in mind. Anyway, how is hunt? Have you found the perfect house yet? Well, with a list of the things that you want for a house, you’ve definitely won half of the battle. You just have to find a property that fits your criteria and make some changes if necessary. That’s a lot of details to build your dream house. Were you able to find one that perfectly matched, or at the very least, close to it? It’s been couple of years, so I assume that’s already the case. I hope the move went smoothly for you. Have a nice day!
